Melva Leu Hays, 77, of Vicksburg, passed away at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2004 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
Born July 30, 1926 in Vicksburg, she was the daughter of Samuel A. and Nellie (McClung) Stockrahm.
She was a homemaker and a licensed beautician, and an avid cook. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Linton and the Vicksburg Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law Warren and Linda Hays of Loogootee; one daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Randy Beck of Newburgh; four grandsons, Jeff and wife Laurel Hays and Greg and wife Pam Hays, both of Charleston, S.C., Ryan and wife Virginia Hays of Atlanta Ga., and Jordan Beck of Newburgh; three granddaughters, Amanda Stamm of Fishers, Amy and husband Matt Hollingsworth of Linton, and Amber Woods of Fishers; seven great-grandchildren, Trey (16), Abbey (12), Grant (8), Aspen (9), Blake (3), Caroline (2), and Camilia (10 months).
She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel W. Hays; four brothers, Glenn, Samuel, Robert, and Donwood Stockrahm; one sister Neva Jean Swaeby; and an infant sister.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Dr. Eugene Riker officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
