Russel W. Powers D.D.S., 99, of Lyons, passed away at 5:35 p.m. May 31, 2004 at Lyons Health and Living Center.
Born Jan. 17, 1905 in Redkey, he was the son of George and Bertha (Schlott) Powers.
He had been a dentist for the Lyons community, having graduated from the Indiana School of Dentistry in 1928. He was awarded the Outstanding Alumnus award from the Indiana School of Dentistry in 2002. He was a member of the Lyons Christian Church, belonged to the Linton Elks Lodge, Greene County Dental Society, the Indiana Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Survivors include: one son Dr. William R. Powers of Lyons; one daughter Janet L. Stone of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Dr. David Stone of Manhattan, Kan., Dr. Michael Stone of Denver, Colo., Dr. Scott Powers of Lyons, Dr. Eva Marie Powers of Indianapolis and Dr. Pete Powers of Indianapolis; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva (Russell) Powers in 2003, two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler and the Rev. Larry Girdwood officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, and one hour prior to service Thursday at the funeral home.
