COLUMBUS ---- James L. Bennett, 78, of Columbus and formerly of Linton, passed away at 9:59 p.m. May 31, 2004 at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born Oct. 21, 1925 in Pleasantville, he was the son of Hayden and Mary Irene (Weaver) Bennett. He married Mary M. Kirkman on Aug. 10, 1947.
James lived his early life in Linton. He was previously employed by Home Supply Hardware in Dugger and also was a truck driver for Link Produce Co. in Indianapolis. He moved to Columbus in 1975 and was employed as an instructor with Superior Training, a school for truck drivers. He was a bus driver for the City of Columbus before retiring in 1985. He attended the Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Columbus. He enjoyed fishing and golf.
Survivors include: his wife Mary M. Bennett; two sisters, Dorothy Meurer of Deltona, Fla., and Helen Louise Cox of Linton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Hayden Bennett, Jr., and one sister Joetta Faye Bennett.
Funeral service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cathedral of Praise Church of God in Columbus with the Rev. Bob Vance officiating. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
Friends may call Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral home in Columbus and on Friday from noon until the time of service at the Cathedral of Praise Church of God.
