Herbert E. Johnson, 89, of Linton, passed away at 2:55 p.m. on June 19, 2004 at Linton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Oct. 3, 1914 in Clay City, he was the son of Elmer and Ethel (Cooprider) Johnson. He married Myrtie M. (Everwine) Johnson on Sept. 29, 1934 in Clay City.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and a retired electrician with 41 years of service at Peabody Coal Company, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the Linton Assembly of God Church, church treasurer for 34 years and belonged to the UMWA.
Survivors include: his wife Myrtie Johnson of Linton; two sons, Paul G. and his wife Loretta Johnson of Linton and Edwin L. and his wife Joan Johnson of Linton; five grandchildren, Dennis Johnson, Brenda Schaffer, Eddie Joe Johnson, Sherill Hanson and Jimmy Johnson; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton with the Rev. William Reigel and Joan Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Clay City.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
