Ruby Ione D. Starkey, 95, of Linton, passed away Dec. 28, 2003 at Glenburn Home Linton.
Born Dec. 31, 1907 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Marion Dugger and Susanah (Allen) Dennis. She had been married to Thorn P. Starkey, who preceded her in death.
She had a tap dancing studio in Linton before moving to Indianapolis, where she was a stage dancer. She then moved to Washington D.C., continuing her dancing and also becoming a seamstress. In 1959, she went before Congress on the Red Dye issue. She was an avid fighter for the cure of cancer. She studied astrology and was fond of cats. She had been on the Committee of the Arts at Bloomfield High School and was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Association. She was an ordained minister, graduating from Jamilian University in Nevada in the late 1980s. She was a member of the Bloomfield First Christian Church.
Survivors include several cousins in the Bloomfield area.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thorn P. Starkey, and her parents.
Graveside service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery Bloomfield with the Rev. Arlen Pope officiating.
There will be no visitation.
