BLOOMFIELD ---- Frank Richard Dixon, Sr., 83, of Bloomfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at 11:04 p.m. at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Nov. 2, 1920 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Forrest and Blanche (Smith) Dixon.
He was a retired sonar technician for NWSC Crane, a U.S. Army World War II Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient. He was a 50-year member of the Odon Masonic Lodge, Odon American Legion, an amateur radio operator for 50 years and a member of the Owensburg Baptist Church. He was active in Scouting, fishing, and was baptized at the age of 9 at Bloomfield Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Kay (Watkins) Dixon; one son, Frank Richard Dixon, Jr., of Odon; one step-son, Steve Brinegar of Bloomington; two step-daughters, Loretta Gray of Bloomington and Elizabeth Hardtke of Punta Gorda, Fla.; three grandchildren, David A. Dixon, Nathan Dixon, and Jonathan Dixon, all of Odon; eight step-grandchildren, Jason Hardtke of Punta Gorda, Fla., Melissa Gray and Dustin Gray, both of Bloomington, Amanda Brinegar, Brandon Brinegar, Matthew Brinegar, Rebecca Brinegar, and Vincent Brinegar, all of Oregon; and four step-great grandchildren, Sage Gray and Sawyer Gray of Ellettsville, Dawn Illig and Dylan Brinegar of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Dixon, and his parents.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jenkins and Sons Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Kenneth Adams, the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler, and the Rev. Merla Craig officiating. There will be private graveside service.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, and from noon until the time of service Saturday.
There will be a Masonic Service at the funeral home Friday evening, and a military service Saturday.
Contributions may be made to the Gideons, the American Cancer Society, or the Hoosier Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
