Paul Gaither, 88, of Linton, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2004, at his residence in Linton.
Born Dec. 25, 1915, in Switz City, he was the son of Ernest W. and Nellie (Buckner) Gaither.
He was retired from the Linton Fire Department where he served as fire chief. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Indiana Firefighters Association.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Lorraine (Brogan) Gaither; three sons, Thatcher Gaither and his wife, Shelva of Terre Haute, Bob Gaither of Linton, and Jim Gaither and his wife Sherry of Linton; six grandchildren, Lisa Gaither, Brad Gaither, Troy Gaither, Chad Gaither, Emily Gaither and Jesse Gaither; and one great- grandson.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Jackson; two brothers, Ernest Gaither, Jr., and Merle Gaither; and his parents.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Linton Chapel, with the Rev. Warren Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today, and after 9 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
The family has suggested that donations be made to the Knox County Hospice through the funeral home.
