Max Edward Ellis, 75, of Pimento, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2004, at 3:45 p.m. at his residence.
Born Nov. 26, 1928 in Clay County, he was the son of Basil E. and Enid (Brush) Ellis.
He retired from Peabody Coal Company's Hawthorne Mine in 1987. He previously worked for Maumee Coal Company as a block layer and carpenter, and also the Jasonville shops. He was a member of the United Mine Workers, Lewis Masonic Lodge 29, Pierson Township Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Vigo County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Boyce Ellis; one son, Monty J. Ellis of Pimento, one daughter, Cynthia Foote and her husband Gary, of Pimento, five grandchildren, Felecia Garber and husband Andrew of Terre Haute, VanNessa Hargis and husband Bob of Riley, Monica, Ethan, and Hunter Foote of Pimento; one great grandson, Garrett Ellis of Riley; four sisters, Jean Pounds and husband Vern, and Linda Campbell, all of Pimento, Rosemary Criss of Reelsville, Doris Crander and husband Dan of Wabash, and one sister-in-law, Barbara J. Marlowe of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews; and his special home care nurse, Cindy White.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, James Campbell and Walter Criss.
Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Mattox-Fox Riley Chapel, with burial following at Westlawn Cemetery.
