Elmer Wayne Thomas, 85, Shelbyville died Feb. 4, 2004 at his residence.
Born July 23, 1918 in Bloomfield, he was the son of Villouogh and Maude Alice Flater Thomas.
He married the former Flora Diana Busby on Feb. 21, 1938. She preceded him in death March 2002. The couple moved from the area in 1946 and operated Thomas Fruit Market, Thomas Superette and Thomas Super Market ---- all in Shelbyville ---- until he retired in 1983.
He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Michael Wayne Thomas; daughter-in-law Barbara A. Thomas; and grandchildren Michelle Phares, Tanner Phares and Evan Phares, all of Shelbyville.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers ---- William Reed Thomas, James Hobart Thomas, Homer Stanley Thomas, Charles Clyde Thomas, Mason Howard Thomas, Chester Lee Thomas, Paul Franklin Thomas and Marion Elvis Thomas; four sisters ---- Lula Mae Thomas, Grace Elizabeth Thomas, Dorothy Mae Thomas and Eva Watson Messick.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service in Shelbyville. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by local veteran's organizations.
Friends may call from 4:30-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
