PLAINVILLE ---- Joe Berry, 79, of Plainville, died at 8:28 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Greene County, he was the son of Johnny M. and Anna B. Fielder Berry.
He was a retired rural mail carrier in Plainville and Montgomery. He operated a portable seed cleaner business for 47 years. He was a member of the Plainville Christian Church; the Masonic Lodge and Lyons Club, both in Plainville. He was a Daviess County 4-H leader and director; a member of the Steele Township Advisory Board; an 11-year member of the Daviess County Council; had been involved for 20 years with the Bloomington Farmer's Market. He taught Sunday school, was an avid gardener and raised beef cattle.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret L. Berry of Plainville; a daughter and son-in-law, Nina L. and Lee Coffman of Plainville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth J. Berry of Walton, Wayne David and Mindy Berry of Plainville and John Edgar and Jodi Berry of Elnora; grandchildren Jennifer and Terry Carr, Heather Coffman, Heath Berry, Chance Berry and Shom Berry; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Alma Heim of Carmel, Ruth Shanks of Sandborn and Roberta Townsend of Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Finley, and a brother, Robert Berry.
Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at Gill Chapel. Burial will be in Plainville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at the Gill Funeral Home, 308 E. Walnut St. in Washington.
