Harold Lenard Thompson, 78, of Graysville, passed away at 4:43 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, in Sullivan Health and Living Center.
Born Dec. 23, 1925, in Sullivan County, he was the son of Lenard and Gertrude Harris Thompson.
He was retired from the U.S. Navy as an LCDR. He was a life member of American Legion Post 139 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2459. He had served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Wabash Valley Community Church in Graysville.
Survivors include his wife, Merle Wilson Blevins Thompson; a son, Lenard Eugene Thompson of Norfork, Va.; a step-son, Owen Blevins of Columbus, Ohio; step-daughter, Ellen Y. Clark of Sullivan; brother, Arthur Raymond Thompson of Sullivan; sister, Lillian Butler of Fort Wayne; a grandchild, Kelly Thompson; four step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Thompson, and his first wife, Lois Thompson.
Service will be 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Alexander-Kean Funeral Home, 211 S. Main St. in Sullivan with the Rev. Dean Terrell officiating. Full military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 139 in Sullivan, Post 197 in Shelburn, Post 298 in Hymera and the VFW Post 2459.
Burial will be in Johnson Cemetery in Graysville.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday.
