Harry E. "Jack" Walton, 79, of Linton, died at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004, at his residence in Linton.
Born Jan. 4, 1925, in Linton, he was the son of Harry Earl and Helen (Sargent) Walton.
He worked as district sales manager for the Indianapolis Star and News, at NWSC Crane, and at Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of the Linton First Baptist Church; a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with four battle stars, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Survivors include son David Walton of Linton and son and daughter-in-law Marc and Kathy Walton of Linton; two grandchildren, Niki L. Walton of Linton and Thad C. Walton of Indianapolis; and a niece, Stacey Ann Walton of Plainfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Walton, on Oct. 24, 2003; a brother, John E. Walton on March 26, 1997; and his parents.
Private graveside services were conducted today, Tuesday, Jan. 13, at Fairview Cemetery with the Rev. David Tyra officiating.
The family has requested that memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church in Linton or to the Greene County Foundation in the name of Jack and Betty Walton Scholarship Fund at R.R. 2, Box 38X, Bloomfield, Ind., 47424.
The Welch and Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
