CARLISLE ---- Thomas William "Bill" Hume, 78, of Carlisle, died at 5:03 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, in Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.
Born May 2, 1925, in Carlisle, he was the son of Irvin and Lilly Glenn Campbell Hume.
He was retired from the Sullivan County Farm Bureau Co-op. He was a member of the Shaker Prairie Christian Church; a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II; member of the Carlisle American Legion and the Sullivan Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a board member of the Sullivan County Credit Union for 30 years and a 1943 graduate of Carlisle High School. He was a member of the German Oberlander Club, the Apple Club, the Sullivan Elks Lodge and the Marine Corps League. He had been honored as a Kentucky Colonel by the Governor of Kentucky.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary E. Knotts Hume; two sons, Bradley Hume and his wife Lisa, and Jeffrey Hume and his wife Jennifer, both of Carlisle; one daughter, Peggy Robbins and her friend, David Bull of Freedom, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Crable of Terre Haute and Frances Josephine Lopez of Ashland, Ore.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Thursday at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with the Rev. Keith Hazelwood officiating. Burial will be in Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legion Posts.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and before the service Thursday.
