CANTON, Texas ---- John Haldeman, 80, of Canton, Texas, died Jan. 27, 2004 in Canton (VanZandt County).
Born Oct. 10, 1923, in Worthington, he was the son of Dewey and Mary Olive Harshman Haldeman.
He was a Methodist by faith. He graduated in 1942 and lived in Worthington until he joined the service. He retired as a Major from the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. He loved watching football, playing cards with family and friends and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Haldeman of Canton, Texas; two sons, John Haldeman of Canton and Steve Haldeman of South Carolina; three daughters, Nancy Walker of Downey, Calif., Susan Fowler of Bloomfield and Julie Haldeman of Mabank, Texas; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma City and Delores Wilcox, and a son, Robert Terry Haldeman.
Service will be 2 p.m. on Friday at Eubank Chapel in Canton, Texas.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
