Ancil "Hank" Mahan, 81, of Shelburn, died at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 6, 1922, in Wilfred, Ind., he was the son of Jennings and Blanche Mahan. He was a former owner and operator of the Shelburn IGA and an ironworker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a 1940 graduate of Hymera High School. He was a member and past commander of the Shelburn American Legion Post 197, member of the VFW Post 972 at Terre Haute, the Shelburn Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, the Zorah Shrine Temple and the Sullivan County Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine Bohinc Wile Mahan of Shelburn; two sons, Ancil Mahan Jr. of Atlanta and Donald F. Wile of Linton; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Doris June Mahan.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday at Holmes Memorial Chapel in Sullivan with the Rev. Harold Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Clinton. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 972.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today with Masonic services at 7 p.m. and prior to the services on Friday.
