James L. Crawford, 59, of Terre Haute, died at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, in Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born April 24, 1944, in Porter County, Ind., he was the son of Cecil Crawford and Pearl Steinhilbur Crawford.
He was an attorney and partner with Wagner, Crawford, Gambill and Trout, a graduate of Crown Point High School and received his bachelor's degree and his doctor of jurisprudence degree from Indiana University. He was licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court. He was a member and past president of the Terre Haute Bar Association, member of the Indiana Bar Association, Indiana Trial Lawyer's Association, Country Club of Terre Haute, Elks Lodge 86, Sycamore Varsity Club and Sigma Pi Epsilon Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Sue Miller Crawford; two daughters, Christen Crawford of Terre Haute and Mary Catherine Crawford of Jasonville; a son, James Turner "J.T." Crawford and his wife, Quincy, of New Orleans, La.; a step-daughter, Sherri Sapp and her husband, Danny, of Jasonville; a step-son, Matthew McCallum of Chicago; a grandson, Layke Matthew Fowler; three step-grandchildren, Christopher Essex, Brenton Essex and Kade Sapp; a sister, Betty Uhrhammer and her husband, Charlie, of Crown Point, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Mary Felton of Crown Point, Ind.; the mother of his children, Terry Crawford of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bob Felton.
Memorial service was at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Country Club of Terre Haute with the Rev. Ellen Racheter officiating.
The Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home in Terre Haute was in charge of arrangements.
