BROOKVILLE, Fla. ---- Cletus Joseph Matthews, 57, of Brookville, Fla., and formerly of Washington, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003 at Port Richey, Fla.
Born Oct. 19, 1946 in Washington, he was the son of Cletus Joseph and Retha E. (Bedwell) Matthews Sr.
He retired from GTE Telephone Co. and was employed with Heyl Trucking Co. in Dade City, Fla.
Survivors include, his wife, Ruth A. Dugan Matthews of Brookville, Fla., and formerly of Sullivan County; one son, Cletus Joseph Matthews III of Salinas, Calif.; one daughter, Joanie Kay Cox of Hudson, Fla.; two brothers, Norman E. Matthews of Montgomery and Edward T. Matthews of Washington; three sisters, Anne Marie Marlin of Washington, Jeannie R. Shimer of Large, Fla., and Monica Fay Mattingly of Washington; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Veronica Matthews.
Funeral service will be at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger at 11 a.m. on Monday with Pastor Harold Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Carlisle.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday.
