BLOOMFIELD ---- George J. Walters, 85, of Bloomfield, passed away at 1:03 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at Bloomington Hospital.
Born Oct. 2, 1918 in Sullivan County, he was the son of Porter and Mae (Shipman) Walters.
He was owner and operator of Walter's Hardware Store in Bloomfield from 1956-71. He also was assistant postmaster of Bloomfield Post Office. He was a member of Faith Christian Church, and a 50-year member of Sullivan Masonic Lodge. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He received a Purple Heart.
Survivors include, his wife, Ann (Miller) Walters of Bloomfield; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Mary Ellen Walters of Greensburg, Dean and Patty Walters Winchester, and Jim and Eleanor Walters of Visalia, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Gerry Thomas of Bloomfield; one brother, Eugene Walters of Terre Haute; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Bertram; two brothers, Lloyd and Gerthel Walters; and his parents.
Funeral service will be at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. Henry Mann, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Friends called at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, and 10 a.m. today until the hour of service.
