James Walter (Jake), 75, of Dugger passed away at his residence at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
He was born in Sullivan County on March 27, 1928, and was the son of Fount Land and Gladys Wilson Land.
He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Dugger, and was retired from Stran Steele in Terre Haute. He was a Navy veteran, and a member of the Dugger American Legion Post 224.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Bonham Land; three sons, Jimmy Land of Linton, Billy Land of Dugger, and Lonnie Land of Linton; six daughters, Carol Land and Sheila Alumbaugh of Dugger, Lena Beard of Linton, Bonnie Helms, Wendy Chesterfield, and Regina Robertson, all of Dugger; one brother, Jerry Land of Dugger; sister, Jacklyn Flesher of Shelburn; 21 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three children, Mark and David Land, and Tina McKenzie; a brother, Joe Land; and a sister, Barbara Noel.
Funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Dugger with the Rev. Steve Talpas and the Rev. Brian Sluder officiating. Burial will be in Dugger Cemetery with graveside rites by Dugger American Legion Post 224.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Bible Baptist Church in Dugger, and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday.
