SULLIVAN ---- Roland Lee Smith, 77, of Sullivan, passed away at 12:04 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at Sullivan County Community Hospital.
Born July 17, 1926 in Sullivan County, he was the son of David A. and Willana (Holtsclaw) Smith.
He was a self-employed painter. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139 in Sullivan and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include five sons, David Smith of Pawtucket, R.I., Roland Smith Jr. of Willmington, Maine, Paul Smith of Andover, Mass., John Smith of Dracut, Maine, and Daniel Smith of Manchester, N.H.; one daughter, Willana Pierce of Wareham, Mass.; two brothers, Joe Smith of Lafayette and Jay Smith of Portage; three sisters, Garnetta Williamson of Terre Haute, Rose Morris of Lake Station, and Marla Paddock of Crawsfordville; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Smith in 2001, and his parents.
Funeral service was at Alexander-Kean Funeral Home in Sullivan at 11 a.m. today with the Rev. Glenn Archer officiating. Burial followed at Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan. Military graveside service was by the Sullivan, Shelburn and Hymera American Legions.
Friends called at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until the service today.
