WASHINGTON ---- Mildred Ernestine "Mid" Wilkes, 89, of Washington, passed away at 1:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003 at Daviess Community Hospital.
Born March 19, 1914 in Sullivan County, she was the daughter of Ben and Vera (Mason) Barden.
She and Bro. Wilkes have served as pastorates in the following churches: Indianapolis, Linton, Mount Pulaski, Ill., Mount Vernon, Bicknell, Noble, Ill., Villa Grove, Ill., Switz City, Monroe City, Antioch Christian and First Christian in Washington. They had served as interim pastor at several churches. They served many years in different capacities at camp. She was a graduate of Merom High School.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Sample of Bailey's Harbor, Wis., Kay Morrison of Kirklin, and Beverly Rodgers of Springfield, Ohio; one brother, LeRoy Barden of Sullivan; eight grandchildren, Jeff Robison, Loralei Nelson, Clay Morrison, Les Morrison, Velena Morrison, Jodie Mahernholz, Suzanna Bright and Neetahnah Neal; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Robert Wilkes on April 11, 1995; great-granddaughter, Kiersten Mahrenholz; sister, Nettie Breedlove; and brothers, Walter, Wilbur and Wendell Barden.
Funeral service will be at the First Christian Church in Washington at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday with the Bro. Ben Ray Bean officiating. Burial will follow at Dugger Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Friends may call at Gill Funeral Home in Washington from 9-11 a.m. on Tuesday and at the church after noon Tuesday.
