FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. ---- Airman First Class Robert Kai Martinez, 22, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003 at Destin, Fla.

Born Feb. 26, 1981 in Madison, Ind., he was the son of William "Bill" Martinez and Mary Gross Arizo.

Survivors include one daughter, Kiara Martinez of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; mother, Mary Gross Arizo of Wahiawa, Hawaii; father, William "Bill" Martinez of Waikiki, Hawaii; one sister, Rachel Arizo of Wahiawa, Hawaii; maternal grandparents, Robert and Sudonna Gross of Hanover, Ind.; paternal grandfather, Seigfried Marinez of Waikiki, Hawaii; foster grandparents, David and Louise Mount of Hanover, Ind.; foster grandparents, David and Louise Mount formerly of Bloomfield; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marra Faddoul.

He attended summer camps at the Culver Military Academy in Culver, Ind., where he was a member of the Culver Woodcraft Drum and Bugle Corps from 1992-94 and the Culver Naval Band from 1996-98. He was a member of the Culver Alumni Association. He was a 1999 graduate of Southwestern High school, where he participated on the varsity soccer team for two years, was a member of the Show Choir for two years, and was a member of the student council and the Computer Club. He attended the Hanover United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Youth Group. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in June 2001, rising to the rank of Airman First Class.

Funeral service will be at Hanover United Methodist Church in Hanover, Ind., at 11 a.m. on Saturday with the Rev. Vickie Perkins officiating. Burial will follow at a later date in Hawaii.

Friends may call at Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral Home, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Ind., from 4-8 p.m., Friday. Visitation will continue at the Hanover United Methodist Church from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday. Full military honors by an Air Force Honor Guard Detachment will be conducted at the Indiana Veteran Memorial Cemetery immediately following the funeral ceremony at the church.
