Letter to the Editor

Rotary thankful for support shown for races

Monday, September 24, 2007

To the Editor:

On the weekend of Sept. 8 and 9 the Linton Rotary Club held the 18th annual Rotary Go-kart race.

This event held at Humphreys Park in Linton is our largest fundraiser of the year. The proceeds of this event funds our scholarship program, given each year to graduates at Linton-Stockton High School. We could not pull off this monumental task without the support and sponsorship of many people, organizations and businesses.

The following were sponsors of the Corporate Challenge race held on Saturday, won by Clayton Kendall, sponsored by City Pest Control. The rest of the Corporate race sponsors were Richard Brown Insurance, Judy's Trophies, Kevin Kramer, Angell's Food Center, Linton Radio Shack, JC Penney's, Terry Smith Photography, Smith Floor Covering, Saron Church, Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce, Greene County Daily World, Bloomfield State Bank, Petro Tire, Mayor Tom Jones, Casey's General Store, Linton Sears, Markle Music, Emberton Enterprises, Dr. Fred Ridge, and Bill McGaughlin.

Sponsorships for the rest of the weekend were: Linton Elks 866, David Sisk, CPA, Welch & Cornett Funeral Homes, Marsha Kelley, CPA, Kevin Fischer, DDS, Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Homes, Smith Printing, Strong Auto NAPA, Father Hilary Vieck, Greene County General Hospital, Richard Brown Insurance. St. Peter Catholic Church, and Superior Ice.

Special thanks go to the City of Linton for its unending support and help setting up at the park, the Linton Fire Rescue guys, Bart Burns and the Linton High School Baseball team for help picking up the hay Sunday evening after the race, and Ken Scott and the Greene County Work Release program.

Finally, thanks to all of the Linton Rotary Club members who helped in any way to make this event another huge success, especially Mark Angell, chairman of the event, who brought this all together when it seemed that it might not take place because of the shortage of hay, and Bob Waters who coordinated the concession stand.
