LPD Chief Troy Jerrell issues the correction and explanation regarding an incorrect accident report involving Mary Fulford and Amy Ramsey
There was an error made in the report sent by the Linton Police Department to the Greene County Daily World newspaper Thursday.
Contrary to the earlier report, Mary Fulford did in fact exchange information with the driver or person in possession of the other vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle (Amy Ramsey) was given all the required information by Fulford immediately following the accident.
An error was made when a family member contacted the officer about the accident. Ramsey's mother (who was not present during the accident) conveyed information to the officer by notes from her daughter while speaking to the officer. The officer mistakenly took this information as a leaving the scene of an accident when he filled out the report.
However, upon further investigation, it was made clear by the Ramseys and Fulford that the information was exchanged immediately after the accident and the report has since been corrected.
Therefore, this was not a leaving the scene type of accident.
