Born June 23, 1921 in Greene County, he was the son of Marcus Benjamin and Lestie Martha (Pafford) Hamlin.
He was retired from General Electric in Bloomington. He was a member of the Bloomfield Church of Christ.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Phyllis Jean (Stephens) Hamlin of Bloomfield; his children, John David Hamlin and his wife Patricia of Bloomfield, Karen LeCocq and husband Paris of Newberry, Lyndal Hamlin of West Terre Haute, and Daniel Paul Hamlin and wife Marge of Bloomfield; stepchildren Dennis Hazelbaker and wife Debbie of Bloomfield, Becky Pierce and husband Eddie of Solsberry, Charles Hazelbaker of Bloomington; two brothers Eugene Hamlin and wife Maxine of Kendallville, Argyle Hamlin and wife Marylin of Kendallville; four sisters June Stackhouse of Kendallville, Beulah Morr of Kendallville, Beatrice Douglass of Wolcottville, Oneita Bailey and husband Don of Florida; sister-in-law, Jackuline (Jackie) Hamlin of Wolcottville; nine Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, 15 Step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildre; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn (Helms) Hamlin; his parents; one sister Frances Lafferty; two brothers, Walter and Russell Hamlin; a daughter Brenda Bex; a grandson Richard Hamlin and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Vance Hamlin officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes all donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
