Born March 31, 1934 in Shelburn, he was the son of Homer and Bivarene (Reuter) Smith.
A 1952 graduate of Farmersburg High School, he was a U.S. Army 82nd Airborne veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Indianapolis Power and Light Co. for 35 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Masonic Temple No. 241 and AMVETS.
Surviving family members include: wife Patricia (McAtee) Smith; two daughters, Diana Kaye (Smith) Murman and her husband Trent, Charolette M. (Smith) Aydelotte and her husband Rob; two sons Daniel E. Smith and Michele, Brett E. Smith and his wife Diana; five grandchildren Jennifer (Murman) Rolfsrud and husband Ford, Christopher Murman, Katie Dermond, Lindsey Dermond, Nicole Slinkard, a great-grandchild Kylee Terrell; three sisters Betty (Smith) Compton, Nancy (Smith) Anderson and husband , Barbara (Smith) Newsome; and one brother John H. Smith and wife Anita.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Robert, Earl and Commodore.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at David A. Hall Mortuary in Pittsboro. Burial will follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. The Brownsburg American Legion will conduct military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Masonic Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.
