To the Editor:

Thank you Linton Miner football players and coaches and congratulations on your hard-earned and well-deserved sectional championship.

I want you to know that you don't work hard and play each game just for yourselves and Linton-Stockton High School. The entire community takes pride in your accomplishments.

I think I can speak for a lot of "old" guys like myself who get a great deal of pleasure from the "Friday night lights." It's something I look forward to every week and from season to season.

I've watched Linton Miner football games in eight (that's right, eight) decades and I can't recall a more satisfying victory and being more proud of players and coaches as I was last Friday night.

What an effort it was !

Coach Weber has done a great job this season. Probably his best job. And the coaching staff is second to none. I watch a lot of practices from sweltering August to freezing November and these guys really work hard in teaching our young men to be winners. Of course, most of them are volunteers with jobs and families. It takes real dedication and commitment to do this year after year. They do it because they love it.

This year especially is a tribute to the coaches' and players' resiliency. I would not have thought it possible to completely revamp an offensive scheme in the middle of the season and do it successfully.

Coach Weber saw that a change had to be made and he did it. Of course, we all saw that the offense was struggling while our defense kept us winning. Who would have thought that Linton would put up 35 points on Perry Central, a team with a defensive average of eight points a game. It was an outstanding coaching job and super effort from a great group of players.

Thanks to Coach Weber and his staff the Miners are a different team than they were just a few weeks ago. As for myself, I thank you players and coaches for giving me a lot of enjoyment. As long as I can climb the bleachers, I'll be on my top row seat cheering you on. Go Miners!
