Daniel M. Axe, 84, of Bloomfield, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born May 13, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Daniel and Nelle L. (Baker) Axe.
He was a self-employed accountant and a charter member of the Faith Christian Church in Bloomfield. He was a 50-year member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge No. 84, Terre Haute Scottish Rite, Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity, and the Bloomfield American Legion Post No. 196.
He was an Eagle Scout and was the valedictorian of the Bloomfield High School class of 1941. He was a graduate of Indiana University in 1948, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration.
Daniel served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean war. He was a member of the 42nd Rainbow Division fighting in the battle of the Bulge where he was injured on Jan. 21, 1945. He rose to the rank of Second Lieutenant during the Korean War.
He also served as a member of the Bloomfield Town Board (now Town Council) from Jan. 1, 1960 to Dec. 31, 1967.
Surviving relatives include: his wife, Enid C. (Hasler) Axe of Bloomfield; two sons, Carroll (C.B.) Bohley of Indianapolis and Roger D. Axe of Bloomfield; three grandchildren, Jamie Evans of Bloomfield, Tara Bohley of North Carolina, and Joshua Q. Axe of Bloomfield, and his great-grandchild Meagan Evans
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Wonder.
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at Faith Christian Church in Bloomfield, with Rev. Arlen Pope officiating. Masonic services will be performed at the church by the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge No. 84. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
