Carol Rose Shields, 70, of Lewis, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 at 5:10 p.m. at Terre Haute Regional Hospital following a long battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 9, 1937 in Greene County, the daughter of John and Myrtle Faucett Underwood.

She graduated from Linton High School in 1955. As a young girl she worked at the Linton Auto Parts store and was a member of the Delts' Sorority.

On Oct. 3, 1959, she married George Lewis Shields and they began their married life with a move to Clay City. She and her husband owned the Lone Elm Farm together and Carol was a secretary and bookkeeper for first Don Putoff Chevrolet and then with Bob Burkle Chevrolet. She retired in 2002 after over 30 years of service.

She was a member of the Eastern Star No. 304 in Bowling Green.

Survivors include her husband Lewie Shields of Lewis; two daughters, Peggy Carol Brighton, of Clay City, and Jill Ann Garrett and her husband Richard of Terre Haute; five grandchildren John Lewis Shields and wife Leslie, LynDee Rose Garrett, Amanda Jennel Davis, Pamela Elizabeth Brighton and Zachary Uriah Brighton; three great-grandchildren Avery Wiliam Davis, Elias Jennings Garrett and Ambrazia Anne Garrett; one sister, Wilma Eaton of Bloomfield, and one brother Jack Underwood and wife Faye, of Linton; several nephews and one niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Lucille Price and Maxine Underwood; and one brother Gene Underwood.

Services will be held Wednesday at 7:30pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with Max Brunton officiating.

Cremation will follow.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 o'clock until services at 7:30.
