Mary Kathryn Harting, 85, of Linton, passed away at 11:05 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Davis Gardens of Terre Haute.

She was born in Sullivan on Aug. 18, 1922, the daughter of Denver and Hattie (Ripple) Steiner.

She was a retired teacher, having taught special education at Dugger Elementary School. She attended Indiana University and graduated from Indiana State Teachers College in Terre Haute, earning a Masters Degree in special education. She was a member of the Saron United Church of Christ, past president of Business & Professional Women, member of Tri Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma, all of Linton and of the Dugger Study Club.

She is survived by her five daughters, Harriett Ann Powell and husband, Barry, of Terre Haute, Susan Spice and husband, Brad, of Terre Haute, Carol Marie Hall and husband, Steve, of Bloomington, Sara Beth Wright and husband, Marc, of Linton, and Merrie Lou Howard, and husband, Troy, of Terre Haute; 12 grandchildren, Kathleen Powell-Jerse and husband, Jim; Barry Jack Powell and wife, Sabine; Jill Powell-Fernandez and husband, Phil; Brian Timothy Powell and wife, Karen; Gwen Spice-Winderlich and husband, Brent; William Spice and wife, Elizabeth; Jarrod Spice and wife, Amanda; Richard Hall; Robert Hall and wife, Catherine; Marci Wright; Ryan East; and Jeremy East, two step-grandchildren, Dylan Howard and Devan Howard; and six great-grandchildren, Matt Fernandez, Karalee Jerse, Jonas Powell, Lucy Powell, Sophia Pearmen and Audrey Spice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Harold K. Harting; her second husband, William F. Harting, Jr.; a sister, Sarah Imogene (Steiner) Brammer; a brother-in-law, William N. Brammer.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Saron United Church of Christ with Reverends Mike and Erica Roth officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m, and on Wednesday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
