Pleasantville man faces multiple charges following afternoon ordeal

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

The afternoon activities of a 19-year-old man, Joshua R. Patterson, kept several law enforcement officers busy Monday.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department was contacted by a woman regarding a break-in at the Lisa McCombs residence in Stafford Township, on County Road 1375 West, south of County Road 575 South. The woman said Patterson had broken into the residence and pictures had been scattered around a bed.

According to a news release from the Sheriff's Department, the woman said Patterson, while he was inside the house, had also called her daughter and told her that he was there. Then he apparently left.

Shortly after the resident returned home, Patterson came calling again, this time kicking in the back door and forcing his way into the house.

The resident called her uncle, who lives a short distance down the road, for help. The uncle arrived, along with a friend.

In the attempt to get Patterson to leave, the two got into a physical fight with Patterson and Patterson battered Ashley Abrams of Carlisle.

When another friend of the uncle arrived at the residence in a truck, Patterson got into his own vehicle was then involved in a motor vehicle crash in the driveway - he rammed his vehicle into the uncle's friend's vehicle two times, causing bodily injury to John P. Hale of Carlisle.

Patterson then left the scene, and fled to his own residence located in Pleasantville.

By the time he arrived in Pleasantville, personnel from the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office and the Indiana State Police were waiting. He fled again.

It wasn't long before he was apprehended by the Indiana State Police and Trooper John Yung transported Patterson to the Greene County Jail. Yung attempted to administer a certified breath test, but Patterson refused.

Patterson was incarcerated with preliminary charges include residential entry, burglary, two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, battery resulting in bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury and criminal mischief. Jail records indicate Patterson listed a Carlisle address as his residence.

His bond was set at $20,000 and he remained in jail until he posted bond and was released at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Skyler J. Pittman is the investigating officer. In addition to other Greene County Deputies, assistance was provided by Sullivan County Sheriff's Department, the Linton Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
