Anita B. Morland, 89, of Mequon, WI formerly of Valparaiso, IN and Sheboygan, WI, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007.
She was born Sept. 14, 1918 in Parlier, Calif. the daughter of Bruce C. and Nellie Hawthorne.
She received a B.A. degree from Valparaiso University in Latin, English, and Education.
She served as a teacher in Bloomfield, Valparaiso, Boone Grove in Indiana and also taught at Plymouth High School, Plymouth, WI and Lakeland College, Sheboygan, WI.
She was a Distinguished Member of the International Society of Poets. Her poetry has been published in The Christian Science Monitor, Treasured Poems of America, Windows on the World, and numerous other anthologies. She also published her own personal book of poetry, A Potpourri of Poetry, which she felt was among her greatest accomplishments. She received the coveted Editor's Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry, presented by Poetry.com and the International Library of Poetry.
She was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ in Wanatah, IN, and a charter member of the Fox River Congregational Church in Pewaukee, WI. She was a member of her church's Women's Guild, the American Association of University Women, and the BQ Chapter of PEO. She also served as the President of the Valparaiso Woman's Club.
On April 25, 1943, she married John Bell Morland who died December 1, 1997.
She is survived by her two daughters, Colonel Anita Leigh, USAF Ret. (Lieutenant Colonel Charles, USAF, Ret.) Arms of Falls Church, VA and Letitia Anne (William) Read of Thiensville, WI along with a grandson, Jonathan Read, also of Thiensville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John Borum and Bruce H. Borum, MD.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Fox River Congregational Church, Pewaukee, WI a with Visitation preceding, from 1-3 p.m. Burial service will be Saturday at Graceland Cemetery in Valparaiso, IN
