Alice E. DeCourcy, 89, Franklin, passed away at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin.

She was born in Wright Township in Greene County on Oct. 18, 1918, the daughter of William D. and Effie (Pope) Bredeweg.

She graduated from Midland High School and was a graduate of Indiana State Teacher's College. She began her career in a one-room school, School No. 9, in Wright Township. After moving to Franklin with her family, she taught at Trafalgar and Hopewell Elementary Schools, retiring after 26 years of service from the Franklin Community School Corporation. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Franklin and the Indiana State Teachers Association.

She is survived by four daughters, Charlene Foley and her husband, Thomas, of Bargaresville, Adella Reagin and her husband, Patrick, of Anderson, Jane Dimarzio of Indianapolis and Harriett D. Carmack of Indianapolis; a son, L. Michael DeCourcy, and his wife, Karen, of Greenwood; nine grandchildren, John E. Foley of Nashville, Ellen Wilkerson of Franklin, Michael, Joseph, and Mark Reagin, all of Indianapolis, Jeffrey Reagin of Anderson, Harry M. DeCourcy of San Francisco, CA, George Mohler of Sausalito, CA, and Allison Mohler of Indianapolis, and 18 great-grandchildren, John E. Jr., David, and Kyle Foley, Samuel and Shane Wilkerson, Jennifer, Christopher, Kelly, Katie, Samuel, Noah, Noelle, Carly, Colin,and Eli Reagin, Owen, Preston, and Emerson DeCourcy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry DeCourcy; one brother, Harry Bredeweg; and three sisters, Anna Swaby, Bessie Bredeweg and Janet Sayre.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Saron United Church of Christ in Linton with Reverend Mike Roth officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
