James H. "Jim" Brown, 78, of Elkhart, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007 at his residence.
Born Jan. 22, 1929 in Marco, he was the son of George W. "Tim" and Mary E. Harris Brown.
He was a history teacher and school board administrator for the Oaklawn, IL for more than 34 years -- retiring in 1986. After retirement, he and his wife, Dorothy, moved to Union, MI. He was elected at a Cass County (MI) Commissioner -- representing Porter and Mason townships 1986-1994. While he as a commissioner, he was involved with the restructuring of county finances and the Porter Township Zonng Board.
He was a member of the Cass County Township Conservation Club, a charter member of the Indiana Lake Organization, the Edwardsburg St. Peter Masonic Lodge No. 106; he served as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Vandalia Lodge of Union, MI; and was a Shriner.
Survivors include: brother, John (Lois) Brown, Marco; three sisters, Rea I. Wolf of West Virgina, Lois L. Fish of Lyons and Betty J. Brown, of Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in May 2006, whom he married Nov. 11, 1953; a brother, George H. Brown; and Mary Bovinshin.
There will be no services or viewing. As per his request, his remains have been cremated. A Masonic service by the St. Peter's Masonic Lodge No. 106 of Edwardsburg, MI will take place at a later date.
Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Chicago.
