Betty Jane Williams, 87, of Linton passed away at 1 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 1, 2008 at her residence.
Born Oct. 6, 1920 in Minneapolis, Minn., she was the daughter of Morley and Laura (Larsen) Walter.
Upon graduation she accepted a secretarial position at the military base where she met and married her husband of 46 years, Charles Eugene "Gene" Williams. Together the couple owned and operated several businesses in the Bloomfield community, including: Bloomfield IGA, Southern Steak House, Williams Laundry Mat, Highland Village Laundry Mat and Southern Bait & Tackle.
Upon retiring the couple lived for several years in Texas until Gene's death and Betty returned to her Indiana roots.
Betty was a member of the Linton American Legion Auxiliary Post 22, a former volunteer for Greene County General Hospital, and former member of the Eastern Star in Bloomfield.
She is survived by her children, Sharon Hanyon of Linton, Charles Williams of Silsbie, Texas, John Williams of Missouri City, Texas, and Robert Williams of Linton; two sisters Maureen and Sandy; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces annd nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Eugene "Gene" Williams, her parents, a sister and grandsons Robert Phillip McFadden and Jordan Ross Williams.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, and one hour prior to service Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with the Rev. Billy Ed Hostettler officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Donations may be made to Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield to help with final expenses.
