Jack Kress, 96, of Bedford and formerly of Linton, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at his residence.

He was born on October 25, 1911, to Burlington and Sue (Melton) Kress.

On August 5, 1938, he married Anna G. Baker.

He was a coal miner for 43 years and a dragline operator at Peabody Coal Company. He was a member of Saron United Methodist Church in Linton where he served on the board, Masonic Lodge No. 560 F & AM, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Zorah Shrine, Greene Co. Shrine Club where he served as club president twice, member of the Tin Lizzies and Elks BPO No.866.

Survivors include his wife, Anna G. Kress; two sons, Jack Alan (Donna Jean) Kress of Bedford and Tom Kress of Montecito, CA; one grandson, Curtis Wade Kress of Bedford; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson David Alan Kress; one brother and one sister.

Friends may call at Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 AM until the hour of service on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Michael Roth officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.
