Letter to the Editor

Religion in presidential race can help us all

Wednesday, January 16, 2008

To the Editor:

In the current scramble for the opportunity to be the people's choice for president, we find that religion is again important.

Not only is it an issue in politics, it is increasingly a popular discussion in the media. This is good.

Many people are learning how little they know about the subject. We also get to see how little the "experts" know. Professors and preachers from the full spectrum of thought, weigh in on the subject. We are learning how little we all know about the subject. Maybe, if everyone in the world would spend more time in study of what they call their religion and put into practice what they had learned, the world would be better off for it.

Most religions have love, peace and equality of man as their theme. They stress self-improvement toward perfection. There are others that are negative and bent on total destruction. No wonder people are so confused.

This country was built on Christian principles and emerged as a creation so wonderful in scope, that all the people that hear about America dream about being a part of it.

In some people's eyes, America is a short step under Heaven itself.

The negative thinkers realize that they can never be part of a positive America, so they turn their energies into plots to destroy America. Wouldn't it be much simpler to change their mind set and learn from America. Maybe they could improve conditions where they are and they can live their American dream at home. Some people would rather fight than switch. Positive thinking is much easier and more pleasant, than negativism.

Why don't you try it?

Thanks for listening.
