Lavelda M. Johnson Goble, 82, of Terre Haute, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, in her home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Greene County to Earl Bales and Dola Ringo Bales.
She was employed at Indiana State University from 1961 to 1987. She retired as administrative assistant to the president emerita, after having served under ISU President Alan Rankin and Richard Landini.
She was a member of ISU Friends of the Library and Terre Haute YMCA boards. She had been active in professional organizations including Altrusa International, Terre Haute Business and Professional Women, Administrative Professionals, Heart of the Nation Chapter, and Professional Secretaries International. She was a beloved member of the Wednesday Breakfast Women. She was a member of the Southside and Eastside Churches of Christ and their Senior Seekers group.
Survivors include cousins, Mary Colbert, Mary "Short" Yount, Donnie and Harold Richardson, and Faye Vandeventer; sister-in-law, Nora Belle Reed; stepdaughter, Bonnie Goble; stepson, Larry Goble; many nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.
Her husbands, Dr. Jack Johnson and Lloyd Goble, preceded her in death.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at DeBaun Springhill Chapel, 85 E. Springhill Drive, Terre Haute with the Revs. Ken Grubb and Peter Reed officiating. Interment is in Roselawn Mausoleum. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
