Don't be afraid, be educated

To the Editor:

It's amazing how easy it is to be negative. Notice how fearful some people are about storms. Weather has always been a subject to be viewed in a negative light.

I guess we always fear those things we don't understand. This morning, at McDonald's, someone said "It's a beautiful morning" and someone else said "yeah, but it's raining."

I used to be a negative person, until I discovered the library. I spent a great deal of my free time in a library. I find that books are among the best friends a person can have. I've been called a "know it all" by some of my friends. I tell them that I don't know it all, but I know where I can find the information I need. It's in the library.

I have only eight years of formal schooling, but have educated myself at the library. It was in one of the books, that I learned how to face my fears and they will disappear. This is true.

Educate yourself in the subject of your fear and you'll understand it. "The truth shall set you free." I read a book about weather to appreciate it, not fear it. It's really a beautiful part of our life.

So it is with anything we fear. Learn to understand what and why you fear anything and that truth will indeed set you free. With knowledge it is easy to be positive about everything, even the elections.

I suppose that's one reason I like Linton! We have so many "positives" here. We're only 40 miles from major shopping areas and major entertainment. We can enjoy the outdoors here, with all the hunting, fishing and hiking available to us. There's archery, bowling, boating and excellent school sports, for our entertainment. Those so inclined can travel to Terre Haute, Bloomington or Vincennes, to enjoy the arts, at the various colleges. Imagination and effort will drive out tedium and boredom.

Please don't neglect your spiritual life. That's the main ingredient of a positive life.

Thanks for listening.

P.S. I didn't mention the Triple H Gun Club and the Grill on the Hill. It's a wonderful experience.
