When it comes to politics, follow the money trail

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

To the Editor:

Elections are upon us. We are asked to vote for the person of our choice.

Question, are any of the candidates "the person of your choice?" Every election, we are given a slate of candidates from which we vote for the "person of our choice."

The persons of my choice aren't listed as candidates. My choice for the Democratic presidential candidate is Evan Bayh. My Republican choice is Newt Gingrich. Neither one of them is listed on the slate.

This spawns the question, who does the selection?

Have you marveled at the amount of money that is spent in these various campaigns? Have you wondered as I have, what do these large-amount donors stand to gain?

Did you ever wonder about the lobbyists in our federal and state legislatures and what they stand to gain? Have you noticed they don't lobby the president? Are we giving credit or blame to the wrong branch of government?

It appears like it's all about money. Is it? I suggest that we follow the money trail, both directions, to find out who gives the money and who receives the money. It shouldn't be too hard to determine the source of our political problems.

Maybe I'm just envious. No one offered me money for my vote, but it's still early. Maybe, when it's close to election day, I'll be able to cash in, big time.

Thanks for listening.

P.S. Ow, I just bit my tongue in cheek.
