Ava G. Callahan, 87, of Odon, passed away died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at Eastgate Nursing Center in Washington.
Born Feb. 23, 1920, in Jasonville, she was the daughter of John and Ava (Conder) Callahan.
A homemaker, she was a 1938 graduate of Scotland High School. She was raised in the Scotland Presbyterian Church. She joined Odon Christian Church in 1953 and after several years joined Parkview Christian Church. Most recently she was a member of Plainville Christian Church, Odon Eastern Star for 50 years, American Legion Auxiliary, V.F.W. Auxiliary and National DAV Auxiliary. She worked for several years in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.
She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Carole Stout of Plainfield, and Shelia and James Terry O'Maley of Odon; son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Nancy Callahan of Chandler; grandchildren, Jay Gee, Gina Christian, Doug Gehl, Brian Callahan and Christine Callahan; great-grandchildren, Jonathan Gee, Janele Gee, Alexia Callahan, Klay, Kole, Kurt and Jonah Christian; and brother, Wesley Bailey of Greenville, S.C.
Her first husband, Harold Brunson, was killed during World War II. Her second husband, Noble Callahan Jr., died in 1987. Her third husband, Ben Jewel, died in 2004. One grandson, Eric Callahan, four sisters and two brothers are also deceased.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, Odon Chapel, with Bro. Chris Coney officiating. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery.
Visitation is after 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
