Hugh Collins Jr., 81, of Linton, passed away at 9:18 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2008 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton.
He was born in Sullivan County on Aug. 27, 1927 to Hugh Collins and Agnes Swan Collins.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a U.S. Air Force veteran in the Korean War. He retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington, and was a member of the American Legion Post #22 in Linton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Edwards Collins, in 1999; a step-son, James Ashba; and a brother, Bill Collins.
Survivors include: two sons, Clark Collins of Germany, David Collins of Dugger; five step-sons, Harvey (Buck) Edwards of Sullivan, Jack Edwards of Carlisle, Robert Ashba, Terry Ashba and Charles Ashba, all of Sullivan; two step-daughters, Carol Ebling of Carlisle and Rosetta Pearison of Graysville; one brother, Bob Collins of Anderson; a sister; Betty Thomas of Linton; a sister in-law, Lenora Phillips of Anderson; and several grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1p.m. Thursday at the Dugger Cemetery with Bro. J. B. Smith officiating. There will be military graveside services by the Linton American Legion.
Friends may call at Newkirk's Funeral Home in Dugger from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday.
