He was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Terre Haute, the son of Olen and Lena (Huntley) Rippy.
He was employed by Peabody Coal Company for 42 years, retiring in 1996. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include: his wife, Dixie (Booher) Rippy, to whom he was married for 52 years; a son, Kenny Rippy and his wife, Gail, of Linton; a daughter, Judy Miller and her husband, Dean, of Linton; a sister, Mary Mendenhall of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Kane Rippy and his wife, DeLora, Jennifer Wilkinson, and her husband, Jason, and Ashley Franklin and her husband, David; five great-grandchildren, Justin and Trent Rippy, Jayden Teague, and Makayla and Brianna Pigg; one soon-to-be-born great-granddaughter, Addison JoeAnne Wilkinson; four step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren, three nephews and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a sister.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Pastor Steve Hollis officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery. The Linton American Legion & VFW will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m.Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
