He was born May 21, 1933, in Vicksburg, the son of Thomas and Fern (Willoughby) Stevenson.
He worked for Peabody Coal Company, retiring in 1988 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Cocoa Beach Community Church of Christ in Cocoa Beach, Fla., was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, a life member of VFW Post No. 7118 and American Legion Post No. 22, both in Linton, a member of the Moose Lodge in Linton, and a member of the Elks Lodge in Merritt Island, Fla.
Survivors include: his wife, Maita (Powell) Stevenson, to whom he was married in 1996; a daughter, Alice Hauger and her husband, Marvin, of Linton; three sons, William Stevenson, Jr. of Greenwood, Jeff Stevenson and Jerry Stevenson, both of Linton; a brother, Larry Stevenson, of Jasonville; a sister, Shirley Dickey of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Shelby (Cox) Stevenson; one sister; and three brothers.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home Linton Chapel with Pastor Larry Corns officiating. Burial will follow at Dishman Cemetery. The Linton American Legion & VFW will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Monday.
Memorials may be given to Riley Children's Hospital through the funeral home.
