Linton Symphonic Band's performance was great

To the Editor:

The Linton-Stockton Symphonic Band more than earned its gold at the state band contest recently at Northview High School. Several of the Miners parents arrived early to size up the competition and just enjoy the music. We listened to several fine bands and were impressed with the high degree of young talent in our area.

As the performance time for Linton-Stockton approached, the hallway began to fill with folks from Linton and at the appointed time, they all entered the auditorium. Numerically, they dwarfed any contingent present that evening. Each bank performing that night deserved as much.

As the large number of Linton band students quietly and professionally took the stage, turned en masse and at attention to face the judges, we all sat in pride and anticipation of what we knew would be a wonderful performance.

Wow! We were not disappointed. It was that and more! Their performance received rousing applause after each number and a long, enthusiastic standing ovation at the end.

The icing on the cake was the score of 10 (9 being perfect) the band received for the sight reading portion of the competition. Mr. Mike Puckett and the band put a great deal of time and effort into preparing for this event, and it more than paid off. There were smiles on all the Miner faces as they existed the final phase of the competition.

Congratulations again Linton-Stockton Symphonic Band for a big win at state!
