Pride Day at Goose Pond F&WA was a success

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

To the Editor:

Despite the less-than-ideal weather, there were 26 volunteers who came out for the Greene County Pride Day this past Saturday to pick up trash along county roads at Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife Area.

I want to thank them all for their time and dedication. I also want to thank Friends of Goose Pond, Sassafras Audubon Society and Greene County Foundation for their generous monetary support of the event.

This was the fourth time that a Greene County Pride Day was conducted in the area and the efforts are really starting to show. During past events, we have always filled two to three 20-yard dumpsters and have collected numerous appliances, furniture and other large household items.

This year we filled one 20-yard dumpster and had very few "large" items. While illegal dumping and littering remain problems, the community's efforts toward prevention and clean-up are making a difference.

Thanks again to all who supported and participated in the event.
