GED testing

Testing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is given on the second Tuesday and Wednesday of each month at the Greene County Community Learning Center housed at White River Valley High School. Those wishing to take the exam must register in person, one week prior to the exam and present three pieces of ID including one photo ID. Cost of the exam is $60 which must be paid at time of registration. The next exam will be given May 13 and 14. For more information contact 659-3862

Walnut Grove Cemetery

The Walnut Grove Cemetery Board will meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Walnut Grove Church.

Vendors wanted

The Linton Farmer's Market is looking for vendors to sell their homegrown produce. The market begins May 10 and will be on Saturdays from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the northeast corner of Humphreys Park. Contact Fran Abbott at city hall for applications at 847-7754.

HIV testing

Confidential HIV testing will be available from 1-3 p.m. on May 12 at the Greene County Health Department. Walk-ins welcome but appointments are preferred. For further information contact the office at 384-4469.

Relay for Life

A garage sale benefiting Relay for Life will be from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday at the REMC building in Bloomfield.

Fish Fry benefit

A fish fry benefiting David Gee will be from 4-7:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Sandborn Lions Den. Baked beans, Cole slaw, potato salad, dessert and drinks also on the menu. Adult tickets are $7, and children under 10 years of age $3.50.

Nehemiah House fundraiser

A dinner and gospel sing fundraiser benefiting the Nehemiah House will from 5-7 p.m. on May 16. The meal is $5 for Italian beef sandwiches, chips, dessert and drink. New Creations will entertain.

Greene County singles

The Greene County Singles will hold a dance Saturday at the 4-H Fairgrounds. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and dance at 8 p.m.

Turkey Hunting contest

Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry -- Local Chapter #IN -15 and Outdoor Ministries are sponsoring a turkey hunting contest. Proceeds benefit the FHFH for needy families in Greene County. Entries must be sent in May 10. Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will host an "Around the Clock" $5 masquerade jewelry sale from 11 p.m. on May 4 to 3 p.m. on May 5.

Missionaries at Lyons Assembly of God

Bart and Lisa Bagwell, Indiana missionaries to Egypt, will minister at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the Lyons Assembly of God located at 610 W. Prairie St. Public is welcome.

96th birthday

Bean, cornbread dinner

The Bloomfield Masonic Lodge is sponsoring a bean and cornbread dinner that will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday at the Bloomfield Town Park. Freewill donation. Music is planned. Proceeds benefit the Park Fund. The public is welcome.

Rabies Clinic

An Owensburg Area Rabies Clinic will be from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Hamm's Place (Old Lehman Store) on Main Street in Owensburg. Rabies shots for dogs and cats are $7 and distemper shots for dogs are $8. Dr. Ed Borter of Odon is conducting the clinic will donate part of the proceeds to the Owensburg Cemetery Association for upkeep of the cemetery. Spaghetti lunch

A spaghetti lunch will be from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on May 10 at Linton First Christian. Proceeds will go to Habitat for Humanity. The cost is $8 per person for spaghetti, salad, bread sticks, drink and dessert. The church is located on State Road 54 East, just past Wal-Mart. Habitat fundraiser

Cover Indiana Habitat for Humanity bike ride is May 15. There are several from Linton First Christian Church who will ride bikes to raise money for Habitat. If you would like more information or would like to donate to this Habitat for Humanity project, please contact the church at 847-9535.

Bloomfield Library book sale

The Friends of the Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library will host their next book sale today in the library's lower-level lobby, 125 S. Franklin Street, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. There will be a large selection of fiction and non-fiction for children and adults priced at 25 cents for paperbacks and 50 cents for hardbacks, some premium books slightly higher.

Right to Life to meet

The Greene County Right to Life will host its monthly meeting today at 7 p.m. at the White River Baptist Church. Anyone wishing to help in placing an ad in the Greene County Daily World, please send your name and a donation of $5 to Greene County Right to Life, PO Box 133, Bloomfield, Ind., 47424 before May 1. Free Christian concerts planned

The Good Twins will be performing free concerts in May to benefit the Vern R. Reed Memorial Chapel Building Fund in association with Open Arms Christian Ministries. They will perform at the Cincinnati Christian Church in Bloomfield on May 14; at the Word of Life Assembly in Bloomfield on May 15; at the Princeton Christian Church in Princeton on May 16; at the Sullivan First Christian Church in Sullivan on May 18; and the Washington Antioch Church in Washington on May 12. A free-will offering will be taken during the performance.

Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary

The Greene County General Hospital Auxiliary will meet at 1:30 p.m. on May 5 in the conference room. Dana Roach will be the speaker.

Breakfast at Scotland church

The Scotland Full Gospel Church Women in Ministry will sponsor a breakfast Sunday from 7-10 a.m. at the church's fellowship hall. The menu will include biscuits and gravy or pancakes and sausage. Cost is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, and $3 for children 5 and under. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 863-4240.

Sidewalk replacement

In connection with the water project, sidewalks in the town of Lyons will be placed starting with East Broad and North Jefferson Streets. Access may be restricted in these areas.

Pre-Pride day

The city of Linton will conduct a Pre-Pride Day event May 5-8. You can have up to five large items picked up curbside on your regular trash day, and you must turn a work order from into City Hall by May 1.

Wright Township

The deadline for all personal property taxes is May 10. A penalty applies to all those received after this deadline. Personal property includes all business and farm equipment, RVs, ATVs, boats, Gator-type vehicles and heavy equipment. For more information contact the office at 665-9872.

Richland Township reminder

The deadline for all personal property taxes is May 15. A filing must be made on personal properties, business inventory and equipment, RVs, pick-up campers, and three or four-wheel farm inventory and equipment. The trustees/assessor's office is located at 200 E. Main St. in Bloomfield. Filings can be mailed to P.O. Box 166, Bloomfield, Ind. 47424. For more information contact the office at 384-8208.

Civitan Sample Fair

LHS Class of 1955, 1956 to gather

The Linton-Stockton High School classes of 1955 and 1956 will have a joint reunion Aug. 8 with a potluck picnic at the home of Shelby Padgett Meurer (Class of 1956). Activities will continue Aug. 9 with a breakfast at Stoll's Country Inn. On Aug. 10 the class members are invited to attend a local church service together. The fun-filled weekend is open to all graduates of the these two classes and anyone else who attended school with them. Linton-Stockton High School class of 1968 will host its 40th reunion July 5 at the Old Bank Restaurant in Linton. Invitations have either been mailed or e-mailed. Greene County Humane Society

The Greene County Humane Society is asking for donations of small, square bales of good grass hay for three nearly-starved horses which were rescued last week. These are very thin, needy horses. LSHS Class of 1988

The Linton-Stockton High School Class of 1988 is currently making preparations for its upcoming 20-year class reunion. Invitations will be mailed sometime in April, however help is still needed to update the classmate contact list. For this reunion, it will include those that were once classmates at some point throughout the class' educational career at Linton. Raffle for hand-hooked rug

The Newberry Progressive Club is selling raffle tickets for a hand-hooked rug. The rug -- on display at the Bloomfield State Bank Newberry Branch -- was designed by Janice Spaulding and hand-hooked by Marilyn Stewart and Jan Cabel. Tickets are $1 each or 10 for $5. Tickets can be purchased at the BSB Newberry Branch or from any Progressive Club member. The drawing will be May 3. Proceeds will be used to benefit the Newberry community.

LHS Class of 1978

The Linton-Stockton High School class of 1978 will host its 30th year class reunion/pitch dinner at 6 p.m. on July 4 at the American Legion Park in Linton. All graduating and non-graduating class members are encouraged to attend. For more information or to RSVP call Jackie Strong at 847-7878.

Worthington Playground Fund

The staff members and students at White River Valley-Worthington Elementary School are raising funds to replace playground equipment in memory of former principal the late Larry Catron. Saron Church of Christ

Saron Church of Christ and St. Peter Catholic Church have combined their food pantries. The Linton Community Food Pantry is located at 440 E. St. NE (the former St. Peter Food Pantry). The hours are 1-5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. - noon on Saturdays. The St. Peter Thrift Shop will remain open at that location at the same hours.

Greene County Soil and Water Conservation

The Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District will meet the first Thursday of each month in the office in Bloomfield at 6 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. For more information call 384-4781, Ext. 3

Federal Black Lung assistance

Lyons Senior Citizens center

The Lyons Senior Citizens Center, 150 N. Jefferson St., now has wooden toy crafts for sale. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Lyons First Christian Church youth group

The Lyons First Christian Church youth group meets at 6 p.m. on Mondays at the church's East Broad Street location.

Solsberry Church coat giveaway

The Solsberry Christian Church VBS students raised money to give fans away during the warm weather and are now in the process of a cold weather coat giveaway. If you need a coat or know of someone who does, please contact Aaron Miller (812) 825-5222 (ext. 3) to schedule an appointment to pick up a coat.

Dugger Legion to meet

The Rexford Ballard American Legion Post 224 will meet the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m.

Jasonville Senior center update

The Jasonville Senior Citizen Center, located at 145 S. Lawton, has opened a country store and gift shop. It will be open from 9 a.m.-noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All proceeds will benefit the senior center. For more information, call the center at 665-9882.

Wig bank

The American Cancer Society announced its wig program is now being offered to cancer patients at Pam's Style Shop in Bloomfield. Narcotics Anonymous

Narcotics Anonymous will meet Saturdays at 7 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church on State Road 54 East. There will be open discussion and all are welcome.

Food pantry

Lebanon Baptist Food Pantry will only be open on the fourth Thursday of each month from 6-7:30 p.m.

Bloomfield Food pantry

The Refuge Assembly of God food pantry will be open every Wednesday from 1-5 p.m. to assist those living in Bloomfield. To donate, please contact Trina at 384-8093 during the pantry's open hours.
