Worthington man faces charges
A 65-year-old Worthington man wound up in jail Monday night after police received a report of an intoxicated man pushing a bicycle on the north side of Worthington.
Edwin P. Stalcup was booked into the Greene County Jail on preliminary charges of public intoxication, a class B misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor.
Deputy Marshal Donald R. Richardson of the Worthington Police Department wrote in a probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday that he and Town Marshal Dennis Conaway both responded to the report and found a man stumbling while pushing a bicycle with difficulty.
Stalcup was reportedly swaying back and forth, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage upon his breath, and when he spoke, it was slurred and not always understandable.
According to the affidavit, the officers had past history with Stalcup and his repeated instances of resisting law enforcement. During the incident Monday near the intersection of First and Washington Streets, a struggle ensued after he was told to release the bicycle. He was taken into custody and the affidavit says Stalcup was very belligerent and he continued to state things about "white trash."
Stalcup was released from jail on $1,500 on Tuesday and he is scheduled to appear in court for an initial hearing on May 5.
