Fish fry a success because of support
Thanks to everyone who supported the Linton-Stockton Chamber of Commerce's annual spring fish fry.
We had one of our largest crowds. Special thanks to our sponsors who made this event successful: Greene County Daily World, Greene County General Hospital, Utilities District of Western Indiana/REMC, Correll's LP Gas, Ron's Lawn and Garden, LaMar Imaging, Ken Schrader's Linton Motors, Sportsman's Pub, McDonald's, Patrick's Restaurant and Bowl, Phil Harris Golf Course, Angell's, American Legion Post 22, Greene County Shrine Club, City of Linton, City Pest Control, Glenburn Community Center, Linton Fire Department, MainSource Bank, Regions Bank, Pizza Hut, and State Farm Insurance Tracy D. Keen.
Our many thanks to those who volunteered their time to work a shift serving food or staying for clean-up duties. And we can't forget all those wonderful folks who donated homemade desserts!
Thanks to everyone. Your continued support is what makes our events successful.
* The Chamber's May meeting will be held at the Linton Elks Lodge on May 20. We will actually have two programs for the day.
The first will be a presentation by Linton-Stockton business students who showcased their talents by attending the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2008 National Leadership Conference in Reno, Nev. They will present their award winning video on illegal dumping at the Goose Pond Fish and Wildlife area.
Our second program will be an update on the progress of the HTC process by HTC coordinator Kerry Conway.
The meeting begins at noon.
* The Linton Freedom Festival Parade is just around the corner. Need help with your float needs?
Arrangements have been made to have Dave Evans from Walt Evans Decorators visit Linton on Tuesday, June 3.
If you would like to make an appointment to meet with Dave to discuss your float material needs or to rent a float from Evans Decorators, please contact the Chamber office at 847-4846.
* The Friends of Phil Harris golf tournament and Roy Clark live concert events are just around the corner. Tickets are now available for the show at Francis' Jewel Box on North Main Street in Linton.
Be sure to call and reserve your tickets.
* The Greene County Relay for Life is just around the corner and an annual fundraiser for this project is the ribeye steak cookout at Angell's Food Center.
Proceeds from this event benefit Relay for Life. Take some time and do your grocery shopping and take advantage of the celebrity grocery baggers for the day.
* Kevin Brinegar, President of the Indiana Chamber will update area business leaders on issues impacting our region, and introduce Chamber programs and services that benefit your bottom line and answers your questions on Thursday, June 5 at the Indiana University Foundation's Showalter House.
Registration will be from 7:30-8 a.m. with the presentation beginning at 8 a.m.
A question-and-answer session follows Kevin's presentation. If you are interested in attending this session, please contact the Chamber office.
* As we often do, we are updating you on a few of the Better Business Bureau's Hot Topics: EuroTrust is sending letters to Hoosiers, stating that, "...a trust account has been set up to your benefit. This is a result of an overdue entitlement that has yet to be claimed by you."
The amount is $1,500,000. The consumer is instructed to call a number with an area code of 778. This is an area code for Vancouver, British Columbia. Don't do it! It's a scam.
Another Hot Topic is U.S. Energy Savings seems to have reps walking through Indiana neighborhoods selling a home gas savings program. Company reps have misrepresented the company name, using well-known names instead of their own.
Consumers not understanding English have been persuaded to sign the five-year contract. Consumers have complained that gas bills did not decrease, but instead increased substantially.
414 complaints have been filed against this Chicago company, and they have the BBB's lowest rating.
* If you have not yet completed the Home Town Competitiveness survey you are encouraged to do so. The survey is in two parts, each part has different questions.
It will take approximately 10 minutes to complete each part.
For those of you with computer and Internet capabilities, you can log onto the survey sites below. If you do not have a computer, a paper and pencil version of the survey is available at the Chamber office.
