Bulldog skid reaches five games

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

Vincennes Rivet scored all of its runs in its final three at bats as the host Patriots overcame deficits of 2-0 and 5-3 to defeat Union (Dugger) 10-6 in a high school baseball game Wednesday.

The fifth loss in a row dropped the Bulldog season record to 3-5.

"We had eight errors, which is just too many," said Union (Dugger) coach Clarence Johnson. "We had a couple of physical errors and some mental errors in the late innings and they made us pay for them."

The Bulldogs had eight hits as B.J. Howard went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Losing pitcher Dustin Howard was 2-for-4 with one run and three RBIs.

Logan Chesterfield, Blane Boyd, Wesley Marshall and Tel Sherman each had one hit. Marshall drove in one run while Chesterfield and Boyd scored one run apiece.

The Bulldogs will host Clay City at 4:30 p.m. today.

"We have to bounce back and be focused and ready to play a double conference game," said Johnson. "We have to make each game seven games within each individual game. We have to win each game.

"We just need to execute and focus. The ability is there. It is just a matter of being focused and playing up to our potential."
